A basic pit for fire can be built with a steel bowl. Concrete blocks can be placed around the bowl. The pits can be made of bricks or other materials without a steel bowl also. If the bowls are removable, cleaning is easy. The pit cover provides safety by stopping the hot coals to come out of the pit. A firepit can be located on concrete patios or open ground. It cannot be located on wooden decks or other combustible decks.
Before the installation of the pit, all the materials and tools are to be collected. The installation can be done in one to two hours. No mortar is required between the blocks in dry fit masonry ring. The ring can be built with mortar also, if needed. The screen cover is first assembled and placed at the centre of the pit. The size of the ring can now be determined. The first layer of blocks is placed around the cover. All the joints between the blocks should be tight. The cover is removed and set aside. The second layer of blocks is placed over the first layer. The joints between the blocks are to be staggered for strengthening the wall. The process is repeated for the third and fourth layer of blocks. The pit tray is placed without legs in the ring. Now the grate is placed.
